- Oxidation is the primary quality concern with pet omega-3 products: many dog-specific fish oils (pump bottles, large tubs) are highly oxidized by the time they are purchased or used — look for IFOS certification, small batch sizes, opaque packaging, and refrigeration after opening.
- Krill oil is marketed heavily for pets but is substantially more expensive per gram of EPA+DHA than fish oil — the phospholipid bioavailability advantage claimed for krill has not been clearly demonstrated in dogs and cats compared to triglyceride fish oil at equivalent doses.
